I hear from SO moms who are worried that their kids are behind if they haven’t learned to read before age six or seven. Many other countries that rank higher than us in literacy don’t buy into this myth of being “behind” at this age. These countries already KNOW this research and intentionally don’t teach reading until six or seven. They don’t fear the wait; in fact they treasure and embrace it. Not to mention, if you wait until their brain and eyes ARE better developed for reading, it might just happen a little faster 🙃
Just a reminder to not let fear takeover if you hear of 4 and 5 year olds learning to read. Here is your permission to treasure the play and exploration opportunities that these littles are so naturally wired for and to surrender any desire to follow the mainstream benchmarks when they just might be going against your natural instincts. You know your child better than ANYONE, trust your gut! 🤗 🙏🏻
