Keeping Toddlers Busy while Homeschooling Older Kids

Many homeschool moms will agree that facilitating a curriculum to older kids is much easier than keeping little ones preoccupied during homeschool hours. I have no magic cure-all for this, but over the years I have found a way to at least help.

It doesn’t really matter what the activity or toy is, but if you make that activity or toy available for a restricted amount of time, it somehow becomes extra special in a toddler’s mind, so that is what we do!

I try to have our toys/activities on rotation and available for a certain time block during each day of homeschool.

For instance, play-doh might be available from 9:00-9:20 on a Monday and Thursday, while building blocks are available from 9:30-9:50 two days a week, while Magnatiles are available for a certain time as well, etc. You get the point 🙂

One more thing, giving your toddlers 5-10 minutes of undivided attention through a snuggle and book or a short time of joining in their imaginary play before your homeschool day begins seems to go a long way.

Below are the toys and activities we most commonly have on toddler rotation now or have had in the past.
