- Alcohol: This will be the base for our extract. Vodka is the most popular choice because of its neutral flavor, which really lets the vanilla shine. But if you’re feeling adventurous, you could try bourbon, rum, or even brandy for different flavor notes. Just aim for 80 proof (40% alcohol by volume).
- Airtight Jars: You could go a wide variety of options here, ranging from an 8oz clear bottle to a 4oz darker bottle.

This process is seriously easy – just a few simple steps, and then comes the patience!
- Prepare Your Vanilla Beans:
- Grab your organic vanilla beans. Remember, 3-5 beans per jar.
- Using a sharp knife, carefully slice each vanilla bean lengthwise down the middle. Start just below the stem and stop about half an inch from the end. You want to open them up and expose those tiny vanilla seeds inside, but don’t cut them all the way through. This helps get maximum flavor out!
- If your beans are very long, you can cut them in half crosswise so they fit nicely in your jars.
- Fill Your Jars:
