When we first booked our trip to Mexico, my hope was to share my childhood Caribbean memories.
Ultimately we hoped for breezy catamaran rides, clear turquoise water, and vibrant reefs at Maroma Beach.
Of course, if you have been keeping an eye on the Mexican Caribbean lately, you know the conversation often revolves around unpredictable water conditions and finding pristine shores. We wanted that classic, magical Caribbean experience, but finding a spot that truly delivered felt a bit like searching for a needle in a haystack.
That is precisely where Maroma Beach came into the picture.
During our recent family getaway to the Riviera Maya, we had the incredible opportunity to partner with Maroma Beach.
Moreover, they treated us to a wonderful day, yet Maroma Beach remains in a league of its own.
Behind Maroma Beach is Grupo Lomas, a family vision founded in Mexico back in 1981. That 40-year legacy of genuine Mexican hospitality and family values shines through every single detail. Here is what a full day there was actually like, straight from our family to yours.

The Beach & “Sugar Sand”
We haven’t stopped talking about this beach since we left and words like stunning or beautiful just do not quite cut it. For all the skepticism the coast catches regarding water and sand conditions, Maroma Beach is the absolute antidote.

Warm Hospitality & Family Catamaran Snorkeling
Beyond the natural beauty, what truly elevated our day was the people.
Moreover, the team that greeted us upon arrival was warm, welcoming, and attentive.
They made our stay at Maroma Beach feel unhurried and comfortable, which matters when traveling with a crew of seven.
When it came time for our 11:00 AM catamaran excursion, we weren’t sure how many kids would snorkel. However, in the open ocean, they could snorkel.
The entire crew was wonderfully family-friendly. Therefore, all five kids went for it.
The kids loved riding on the catamaran nets as we sailed across the water. Additionally, they enjoyed the sea breeze and cold sodas in hand.
When the youngest two decided they’d had enough swimming, the crew was incredible. Finally, they gave them a tow back to the boat with big smiles.

And I am so glad they went out, because the underwater world here is something we will never forget. We got to swim just two feet away from sea turtles (a bucket list moment for me!), spot stingrays gliding along the sandy ocean floor, and float above a kaleidoscope of colorful fish. As it turns out, the Maroma Beach reef is part of the Mesoamerican Reef—the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. Getting to experience that firsthand as a family was the ultimate unhurried, hands-on classroom moment. They even managed to accommodate a last-minute dolphin encounter for us, which was an absolute hit for all ages! (Dolphin Discovery runs these and they are on the Maroma Beach grounds).
ATV Adventures & Mangrove Wildlife
While the younger kids and I soaked up the gentle beach vibes and shade, Dex and Paul traded the sand for horsepower on the 3:00 PM ATV tour…and Paul hasn’t stopped talking about it since!
They buckled into their gear and took the trails winding through the lush mangroves. They saw way more wildlife excitement than they bargained for when they pulled right up within feet of a wild crocodile along the trail!

After our ocean adventures, we refueled at the main dining area. Maroma features more than 20 food stations, making lunch a big WIN for everyone in our family. Dex and I happily devoured authentic Mexican tacos and fresh regional dishes, while the kids gravitated straight toward wood-fired pizza and pasta.
With full bellies, we retreated to our dreamy beach side Bali bed. It served as our cozy home base for the rest of the afternoon, allowing us to relax in the sea breeze while the kids ran back and forth between playing in the calm water and collecting beautiful seashells scattered along the shore. Our beach side Bali waiter helped keep us hydrated and was genuinely so kind, we felt like friends by the end of the day.
It easily ended up being our favorite day in all of Mexico. More than anything, it felt like such a gift to slow down, lay down the rush of travel, and fully enter into God’s beautiful creation together as a family. If you are planning a trip to the Riviera Maya and want to experience the Caribbean at its absolute finest, Maroma Beach needs to be at the top of your itinerary.
A huge thank you to the wonderful team at Maroma Beach for hosting us, making us feel like family, and showing us what paradise is truly supposed to look like!
